When you are shopping around for tennis shoes for toddlers, it’s good to know that you won’t have to look for too many extreme features.
As let’s face it, they aren’t yet competing in sport at any high level.
If your child is trying to get started in tennis or any other sport, I believe that there are still some key features to look for.

What To Look For
Having coached tennis with groups consisting of toddlers, I can tell you that the first thing you want to do is get a pair of shoes with velcro instead of laces.
This just gives the kids an easier time putting their own pair of shoes on – something that gives them a sense of independence and confidence.
On top of this, the shoes do need to be comfortable and supportive, which we’ll get to now.
I’ve addressed the reason for velcro instead of laces above, but now let’s look into a few more features that a toddler pair of shoes should have.
Remember, just because they aren’t yet competing in high-level sports, their joints and muscles are still developing and growing, so the shoes should still be supportive.
They don’t need to be as reinforced in key areas as some adult tennis shoes, but adequate support is still a must.
Secondly, toddler tennis shoes need to be as lightweight as possible.
If we’re honest, kids can get tired easily, and when they get tired they can get cranky, which isn’t good for any of us!
If you get a nice lightweight pair of tennis shoes they will exert less effort in whatever exercise they are doing, which will, in turn, keep them going for longer.
This is good not only for them but for all of us around them too.
Now – comfortability and support.
Just like us adults, kids don’t like it either when their shoes are uncomfortable.
Unlike us adults, however, toddlers are likely to get upset if the shoes are rubbing and causing them pain.
That’s why it’s still a good idea to look for shoes with a good bit of padding on the inside.
There aren’t tons of tennis shoes on the market today that contain all of these features, but there is one that I’d like to recommend.
Recommendation For You – Nike Revolution 5
As I mentioned before, you’re not going to find shoes for this category with any amazingly unique features.
And if you do, they probably aren’t going to be super different from other pairs of toddler tennis shoes – despite the claims of the manufacturer.
It’s far better to just choose a solid all-around pair of tennis shoes, as seen with the Nike Revolution 5.
While the picture here shows a blue pair of tennis shoes, you can actually get them in multiple different colors.
Of course, this means that you can get a pair that your toddler will like and find a color that they will feel comfortable in.
I love that these shoes have just the one velcro strap running over the top, as this makes them super easy for kids to take the shoes on and off.
I also like that the sole is quite thick in general and that the material around the ankle is quite sturdy, which provides support.
Finally, this shoe is lightweight so your toddler can run around all day and not get overly tired because of having heavy shoes on their feet!
