I remember when I had my black belt test in Taekwondo.
Our grandmaster told us something that I will never forget.
He didn’t use these exact words, but this is the gist of what he said:
“Each individual is unique. Some people are tall, some are short in height, have different levels of IQ and have different physical capabilities.
You are not judged in this black belt test against each other but rather against yourself. A black belt is about how much you have grown throughout the years and pushed yourself.”
It was like at the end of a Kung Fu Panda movie where the secret is to “believe in yourself” this is the moment that always stuck with me.
I have been applying my taekwondo grand master’s advice to my life ever since.
You may be more naturally gifted than me or have other advantages.
Still, I will give my best at a task despite any physical or mental shortcomings I might have.
