I must admit, I knew that it was important to choose the right tennis shoes, but I didn’t realize exactly how important!
When conducting my research for this piece, I checked out the possible effects if somebody didn’t wear the right shoes.
And let me tell you, I WAS SHOCKED!

As we all know, tennis is a sport that requires agility, quickness, acceleration, and overall speed to cover the court.
There are quite literally thousands of tennis shoes out there on the market, and all of them seem to promise similar things.
But you need not worry!

What To Look For
Different brands and different companies all seem to promise the same rewards when it comes to their tennis shoes.
And as we all know, brands are not always ethical or honest about what their products can deliver.
Fortunately, I have sampled so many brands and types of tennis shoes throughout my career that I like to think I can provide some trustworthy guidance.
Having played at what I would like to consider a reasonable level of tennis, with college competition and a few international events under my belt…
.. I’ve crafted a list of three specific features that always make a great tennis shoe for men.
When it comes to choosing a pair of tennis shoes, I believe that there are Three Main Specifications that you absolutely need before choosing to buy.
These specifications are that the shoe needs to be Lightweight, Durable, and Comfortable.
This is the magic mix when it comes to tennis shoes, and there is a reason that these are my top three specifications.
1) Tennis Shoes Need to Be Lightweight
Why do the tennis shoes need to be lightweight?
Well, the less weight that you carry on your feet the less weight that you need to carry around the court.
This not only increases your speed, but also ensures that you expend less energy when playing.
Simply put, if you are trying to charge around the court in a shoe that is too heavy, you will actually be slower than if you were to wear a lightweight shoe.
This may only be a split second slower, but it all adds up!
2) Durability of Your Tennis Shoe Is Just Critical
The shoe absolutely needs to be durable.
In tennis you will often find that your shoe tends to wear out around the toe area…
.. which is mainly due to the amount of SLIDING and High Impact Movements around the court.
However many of you (myself included) will also drag your toe when serving, and this makes the shoe wear out quickly if you do not pick a durable pair.
Let’s face facts, tennis shoes can be pretty expensive if you want to get a decent pair.
For that reason, you want a durable shoe so that you don’t need to invest large amounts of money every few weeks or months.
3) Stability and Comfort of the Shoe Is Hugely Important
If the shoes are not comfortable you will get blisters and will be more focused on your feet than actually playing the game.
And of course we do not want that!
You want to be able to play as long as you like, without any discomfort or unwanted blisters distracting your attention or impacting your game.
When you are sliding around on the court and trying to stop dead at high speed, the shoe needs to be able to handle this pressure.
If it can’t, you risk rolling over on your ankle as well as a whole host of other ankle/leg-related injuries.
So with all this in mind, I believe there is one shoe that rises above all else for a great men’s tennis shoe.

As worn by none other than Novak Djokovic, the Asics Court FF 2 is the best men’s tennis shoe in my opinion.
If you’ve ever watched Djokovic on the court, the movement and agility he has are like nothing I’VE EVER WITNESSED BEFORE.
He is almost on the floor retrieving the ball at times, not to mention that he does the splits sometimes!
I’m not suggesting that us mere mortals can do the same things that he does, but we can certainly take advantage of the same shoe.
